The Challenge
Our client, a leading equipment and tool hire company with a long-standing history in the industry, originally engaged Antares in 2013 to develop a Pricing Group Administration System (PGAT) to better manage their pricing group information. Over the years, the system evolved internally, but as the company continued to grow, so did the complexity of its pricing management needs. The system began to show signs of strain under the weight of new requirements, interdependencies with other systems, and the need for enhanced functionality to stay ahead in the competitive market.
The Solution
To address these challenges, our team at Antares proposed a phased approach centered on modernising the legacy PGAT system. Recognising that application modernisation is essential for businesses to unlock the full potential of their systems, we applied our tried and tested methodology, which takes a holistic view of the entire process from start to finish.
Our team completed a comprehensive Discovery, designed to gain a deep understanding of the current state of the PGAT system. Given the legacy nature of the application, it was crucial to assess how well the existing system was aligned with modern business processes and how it could be evolved to meet future needs. We conducted thorough reviews of all available application documentation, held workshops with the system owner and key stakeholders to understand the system’s purpose, workflows, key functionalities, and the audience it serves. Additionally, we collaborated with technical architects, lead developers, and other relevant stakeholders to assess the technical architecture.
We then conducted an in-depth application design review, focusing on the current architecture, application security, application logs, source code management, development practices, and testing methods. This approach allowed us to identify areas where the system could be optimised for better performance and security.
Following these assessments, we moved into the development of the application, where our team implemented the necessary changes and enhancements. These updates addressed immediate issues and laid the foundation for future scalability and integration with evolving technologies. By modernising the architecture, enhancing security protocols, refining code management practices, and optimising testing processes, we ensured that the PGAT system was brought up to date and positioned for future growth.
The Result
The outcome of our engagement was highly successful. The client now has a robust, secure, and highly functional PGAT system that is well-integrated with their other internal systems. The enhancements we implemented have improved the system’s performance, security, and scalability, ensuring it can handle the growing complexity of the client’s pricing management needs.
By conducting a thorough assessment and addressing both immediate and long-term requirements, we were able to provide a solution that not only meets the current needs but is also adaptable to future changes.
